Why M-Cross Cattle Co.?
Our Mission
At M-Cross Cattle Co., we’re committed to providing tender, delicious Bonsmara beef you can feel good about feeding your family—ethically raised, responsibly managed, and always from our ranch to your table.
We blend generations of ranching experience with a custom finishing program to produce beef that’s rich in flavor, consistent in quality, and raised with integrity—respecting the land, the cattle, and the people who make it possible.
What You’ll Get
Beef you can trust. Tender, nutrient-rich cuts from cattle raised entirely on our ranch.
A true connection to your food. You’ll know where it came from, how it was raised, and the care that went into it.
No feedlots. Ever. These cattle live their whole lives on open pasture—never packed into feedlots or shuffled from facility to facility. They only time they leave the ranch is for USDA processing.
Lean beef, rich flavor. Bonsmara beef is known for its tenderness and taste, not excess fat. Our goal isn’t to chase marbling—it’s to let real flavor shine through a clean, healthy cut of beef.
Minimal intervention. One 7-way vaccine during their first year for basic herd health—and that’s it. No antibiotics, no hormones, no insecticides, and no unnecessary medication.
Hands-on management. Every animal in our M-Cross Cattle Co. beef program is born, raised, and finished right here on the ranch, then processed under USDA inspection.
Our Approach
Ranch-Raised and Ranch-Finished
Every animal in our M-Cross Cattle Co. beef program is born, raised, and finished right here on the ranch. From birth to finishing, everything happens here at home. We handle our cattle quietly and calmly. Calves are weaned using “fence weaning,” a human method that allows the calves to stay near their mothers during weaning. This reduces stress, strengthens immunity, and improves meat quality. As a result, we don’t have sick calves in the weaning pen.
Our custom finishing program balances grain and pasture for 90-120 days to achieve gentle marbling without excess fat. That’s why our beef is naturally lean yet tender and flavorful. You’ll notice less grease and more of what matters—true beef taste.
Balancing Lean vs. Fatty
Our beef finds the ideal balance between lean, grass-fed qualities and the flavorful marbling of commercial beef. Unlike grass-fed, our cattle get a grain-based finishing ration that adds marbling and improves flavor and portion size. Unlike the commercial beef that you get at the store, our cattle never go into a feedlot and remain in their natural habitat up until slaughter.Low-Impact Management
Our cattle are handled calmly and quietly, minimizing stress and improving overall health. During weaning, we keep calves close to their mothers using a “fence weaning” method. This gentle transition results in healthier, calmer cattle and, ultimately, better beef.Born and Raised Here
Every animal in our program is born, raised, and finished entirely on M-Cross Ranch. Unlike commercial beef that moves through multiple facilities, our cattle live their entire lives on our ranch. This consistency and calm environment allow us to oversee every stage of their development, ensuring quality, health, and flavor that set our beef apart. With M-Cross Ranch, you’re getting beef raised with care, start to finish, in one place.Addition Through Subtraction
Our integrated approach allows us to eliminate a lot of steps in the conventional beef supply chain that take away from the natural attributes that we want to provide. Every time an animal goes onto a cattle truck, moves to a new ranch, stays in confined feeding environment, that puts stress on the animal and creates an opportunity for sickness. The commercial market controls for this by treating the cattle at various stages with vaccines, antibiotics, hormones, steroids, and pesticides. Our cattle get one vaccine shot (7-way) at branding, and that’s it. We don’t have to doctor sick cattle because our cattle don’t get sick. And if we do have to treat one with pharmaceuticals, that animal doesn’t go into the beef program.
Why Our Beef is Different
Bonsmara Cattle
Our cattle are Bonsmara, a unique breed that combines Hereford, Shorthorn, and Afrikaner genetics. Extensive scientific testing has shown that Bonsmara outranks nearly every other breed on tenderness. Bonsmara are perfectly suited to our mission of providing high-quality, natural beef to our customers. Other breeds tend to be tough and dry unless excess fat is added to the meat through prolonged, confined feeding in a feedlot. While we believe that a certain amount of fat is a good thing, excess fat is wasteful and unhealthy to the eater. Bonsmara beef is tender, juicy, and flavorful without the excess fat.
Bulls in Our Program?
Some say that bulls produce tougher meat. All we know is our own experience. We’ve been using bulls in our beef program for several years now and we’ve found that, within the context of our low-stress management and finishing process, our bulls have yielded the most tender and flavorful beef we’ve ever had—from our ranch or elsewhere.
A Different Path from Start to Finish
Most grocery store beef comes from animals that have been transported through various stages and spend months in a feedlot—often over 260 days—where they are fed high-calorie rations to increase weight and fat.
At M-Cross Ranch, our cattle don’t experience these stressful conditions. Born and raised on our ranch, they live in a natural environment without feedlots or transport from one facility to the next. It’s a healthier environment, and we believe it yields better beef.
By choosing M-Cross Ranch beef, you’re choosing a product that’s truly different—better for you, better for the cattle, and produced with humane, sustainable practices that respect the land.
Last word on fat. Some people like a fatty steak. That’s great, so do we sometimes! We’re not here to talk down on the commercial beef world or consumers who like more fat in their meat, we’re just trying to offer something different, something that’s hard to find in today’s buying market: healthy, high-quality, natural beef that you’d want to feed to your family day in and day out. If that’s what you’re looking for, we’d love to talk!
